Blue Bean Chocolate

Blue Bean Chocolate is a chocolate bar designed for the Penn State Berkey Creamery that emphasizes community, diversity, and shareability within Penn State. Its design features various nods to Penn State culture, with an included guide to decipher the abstract icons. My target audience is families of Penn State alumni who visit Berkey Creamery.

Remember when you went to birthday parties as a kid? Even though every piece of a birthday cake tasted the same, you were drawn to a certain piece because of the decoration in the icing. Maybe there was a fondant flower on one piece, or the letter “E” on another. This idea framed my concept for this project.

Process

Once I established my idea and audience, I began sketching potential icons, both letters and Penn State-related shapes. I then began digitizing these and adding color. When I was finished with the digital design and dieline of the packaging for the bar, I printed, crafted, and shot product photography for the packaging.

Here, I am showcasing my work at the Penn State School of Arts and Architecture’s Donor Appreciation Event on behalf of the Graphic Design Department.
